Large, rounded, low-set puma ears sit in her hair, a very long heavy black-tipped tail streams from her, and her large hands are padded. A choker of a single large curved puma-claw on braided sinew is at her throat, and obsidian hand-claws are hafted and strapped over both fists. The setting is a moonlit mountain shelf above the treeline: bare wind-scoured rock dusted with snow, a ring of standing stones, the rest of the pack circling her in the open, and the valley a black gulf below. She has dropped low and lunged, driving forward off a deeply bent back leg with both obsidian hand-claws raked out wide and forward at a pack-mate closing from the front, her spine arched into a hunting curve, her braid and tail snapped dead-level behind her. Her body is side-on to the viewer and arched, the near thigh driven forward across her, her face forward and down on the pack-mate. Dust blasts back from her driving foot, a low tawny after-image blurs off her leading shoulder as the change flickers, and the pack-mate's own claws are a motion-blur. A hard high moon stands over the shelf and rims her lunging body, the standing stones and the snow in cold silver against the black valley.
