character: kitana
1girl, solo, kitana, black hair, asymmetrical bangs, hair slicked back, single hair bun, blue leotard, spandex, fingerless gloves, armband, blue thighhighs, blue boots, blue feathers, from below, dutch angle, low angle, cowboy shot, outstretched arm, holding fans, steel fans, mid-throw, looking down at viewer, half-closed eyes, smug, lips parted, wind, blue and steel palette
The camera sits low and canted hard to the right, looking steeply up past the figure's hip to her shoulders, so the whole frame leans and the sky opens behind her. She has turned three-quarters away from the lens but her chin is pulled down over her near shoulder, and her eyes come back along that turn to land on the viewer from under lowered lids — a smirk that is only half a smile, one corner of the mouth up, lips just parted on a breath.
Her weight rides on the far leg; the near leg is drawn back and crossed behind it at the knee, toe of that boot touching the ground and heel lifted, so the hips cant to one side and the blue-clad thigh stretches long toward the low lens. Her right arm is flung up and forward, elbow barely bent, and her steel fan is caught mid-release at the top of the arc, the blades fanned wide, the leading edge of each rib catching a hard white line of sky. Her left hand rests low at her hip, closed on the second fan, holding it edge-on so it reads as a thin bright slit.
The black hair is slicked back tight from the temples, and the single high bun sits squared at the back of the crown, with the long asymmetric bang falling loose over the far brow and whipping across the near end of the collar. Blue feather trim fans up behind one shoulder, lifted and dragged a hand's width back from the costumes' line by the gust. She wears the blue spandex leotard with nothing layered over the hips, the thigh-highs rising to mid-thigh, the boots laced to the calf, a plain band tight on the upper arm and fingerless gloves leaving the knuckles bare — both hands gloved, both ears bare, the throat open and unadorned, no ornament anywhere but the feathers.
The arena floor is loose sand and broken stone in the bottom third of the frame, scuffed in two arcs where she has already pivoted, and behind her the ground drops away into a hazy storm-grey bowl of spectator stone and hanging chains, all of it simplified to three planes of value and holding no readable signage. The only light is a cold low sun coming in from frame left and slightly behind her, so the leading edges of the fans throw back hard highlights, the undersides of her jaw and the fan blades drop into shadow, her feet throw long shadow-streamers rightward across the grit, and the far arena drowns in flat blue-grey dust. The palette admits black, the silver of the steel, and two blues — deep navy in the leotard, paler dust-blue in the air and the distant stone — nothing else. Dust lifts off the sand and crosses the light in fine visible threads, and the feathers are still leaning out from the shoulder while her shadow on the ground has not yet caught up with her turn. Effortlessly lethal.
