woman, solo, sitting, on bench, sketching, holding pencil, holding sketchbook, sketchbook in lap, drawing, bear illustration, bear drawing, colorful drawing, open sketchbook, glittering river, sparkling water, riverside, riverbank, bench, light-blue button-down shirt, sleeves rolled up, rolled-up sleeves, white pleated midi skirt, chestnut-brown hair, low ponytail, hair ribbon, from above, three-quarter view, looking down, head tilted down, closed mouth, faint closed-lip smile, relaxed shoulders, leaning slightly forward, ankles crossed, feet off ground, bare legs, barefoot sandals, pencil between fingers, hand resting on paper, sunlit, dappled light, warm afternoon, green foliage, distant trees, illustration, in color, no text Seen from above and slightly behind her right shoulder, the woman sits alone on a weathered wooden bench at the edge of a glittering river, the bench's slatted back crossing the lower third of the frame while the water fills the upper half. Her chestnut-brown hair is gathered into a loose low ponytail tied with a silk ribbon at the nape, a few strands slipping free across her cheek as she tilts her head down toward the open sketchbook propped in her lap. She leans forward just enough that her spine curves, her weight settled on her right hip, her left ankle crossed over her right, both feet hanging clear of the gravel path. Her rolled-up sleeves sit bunched at her elbows, and her right hand holds the graphite pencil at a low angle, the tip pressed to the page, while her left hand flattens the sketchbook's spine against her thigh so the paper stays steady; the hardcover's edge digs a faint line into her skirt where it rests. On the visible page a bear illustration is worked in color — rounded ears, a broad snout, a body blocked in warm ochre and russet pencil, one paw lifted — the strokes visible and unfinished at the bear's hindquarters, and beside it the pencil's own faint shading smudged where her palm has passed over the paper. Her eyes are lowered to the drawing, her mouth a faint closed-lip smile of concentration, her brow slightly drawn. The river beyond her runs bright and broken with glitter, silver-white flecks of sunlight scattered across the ripples so the whole surface shivers with sparkle, the far bank a soft green band of foliage under a warm afternoon sky, and the light comes from the upper left, laying a pale gold wash on her shoulder, the top of her head, and the raised edges of the sketchbook pages, while the bench and the grass beneath it sit in cooler green shadow; the sparkles on the water and the fine grain of the pencil strokes catch that same low sun. The palette holds light blue, white, chestnut brown, and the warm ochre and russet of the bear drawing against the cool green and silver of the riverside, everything else kept quiet. Serene, absorbed, sun-warmed.
