From a low dutch angle tilted upward from the churned forest dirt, multiple towering, muscular oni with mottled crimson and slate-blue hide, curved ivory horns, and jutting tusks close in from every side. In the immediate foreground, the massive horned shoulder and clawed hand of a red-skinned oni frame the frame, its heavy spiked iron kanabō held mid-swing. Encircled at the center, two young women stand tightly back-to-back in defensive desperation. The blonde girl, with her long golden hair tied low beneath a slim hairband, visible pointed elven ears, and dilated blue eyes, recoils with her weight planted on her back boot; she wears a sleeveless Japanese-style mini kimono lined with white fur trim, detached dark sleeves hugging her forearms, and sheer dark pantyhose leading into scuffed leather boots, her hands raised with pale energy gathering at her trembling fingertips. Pressed firmly against her spine, the other girl, with glossy black hair swept into a windblown side ponytail and amber-brown eyes, clutches the lapel of her white-and-vermilion haori jacket with white-knuckled fingers, leaning outward to counter the encirclement with a drawn defensive talisman held between two fingers. Menacing horned silhouettes and reaching clawed arms cast jagged, crisscrossing shadows across both girls' faces and clothing. Overhead, harsh moonlight spears through tangled pine needles, clashing with the cold turquoise glow of drifting will-o'-the-wisps and the burning scarlet of demon eyes. The downward draft from an incoming raised club flattens the undergrowth and sends loose dead leaves whipping violently into the air around their feet. Desperate peril.
