Jody Crowley AKA Lady Shadow

Joseffin ferch Marc Mônnewydd AKA Josephine "Jody" Crowley Welsh-born granddaughter of the infamous founder of the Thelema movement Aleister Crowley, Jody was born from his daughter Nuit Crowley (who supposedly "died" in 1906), a victim of the period's rampant magical dark lord, Lord Chaucer, as a potential virgin sacrifice for a ritual meant to wipe out normals across the British Isles. Rescued by Meridiana-trained archmage Llewellyn Mônnewydd, it was soon discovered that the child had triggered her own magical inheritance...which was ultimate descent from the "magical world" of Nerio (which is Mars' twin planet in the universe of TEOTC). Adopted by a local family, Nuit would eventually befriend Llewellyn's son Marc, they forming a relationship that by 1940 produced a VERY powerful magical child in 1940 on the Isle of Anglesey off the coast of Wales. Six years later when her magic had stabilized itself, Jody would enter her father's and paternal grandfather's alma mater, engaging in a ten-year training program which turned her into quite the powerful combat witch. On graduating in 1956, Jody would adopt her English name and form a magical adjunct to the Argentium Astrum (A∴A∴), her maternal grandfather's spiritual organization. While the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was still the law of the land, Meridiana-trained mages were ruled under a more loose set of regulations than a Hogwarts alumnus like Albus Dumbledore. This grounding in the "muggle" world would allow Jody to operate quite freely on both sides of the magical divide to this day. When Tom Riddle AKA Lord Voldemort launched his rebellion against the Ministry of Magic in 1980 (the Harry Potter timeline is moved ahead about fifteen years than what was set in the books), Albus Dumbledore got a private meeting with Queen Elizabeth II to arrange to have Meridiana-trained mages join the fight (as they were seen as an independent magical enclave in the British Isles with separate representation in the International Confederation of Wizards). That was codified in a Magical Royal Proclamation (the supreme law for all magicals in the United Kingdom), thus seeing Jody form a paramilitary wing to the A∴A∴. During Voldemort's rebellion, the A∴A∴ proved to me a more deadly thorn in the side to the Death Eaters than the Order of the Phoenix (which served more as an intelligence-gathering unit than an active combat unit). And while the rebellion was effectively put down on Hallowe'en evening in 1996 when Voldemort was effectively destroyed by Lily Potter, Jody and her fellow A∴A∴ fighters still found themselves bound by the Queen's Will to seek out rogues who joined forces with the yeoman's bastard son from Yorkshire, that causing relations between the Meridiana community and the Ministry of Magic to remain sour despite all of Dumbledore's efforts to mediate such matters. Things came to a head in the fall of 2007 (the main story of TEOTC is set in 2012), when Jody was ambushed by rogue Death Earts near Royal Leamington Spa. Jumping into the fight was the young Rose Potter (the Warlock), whose "pure chaos" magic simply overwhelmed Voldemort's followers, then sent them swimming off Land's End in Cornwall to feed the krakens known to live there. Quite impressed by what she saw, Jody then accepted Moroboshi Tariko's offer to be Gifted. She became the Mistress of the Shadow Court of Yiziba, Lady Shadow; this made her the oldest "pretty girl" to be Gifted and noted on in The Book of Pretty Girls. A mistress of the "darker" side of Yizibajohei magic (in effect, that which destroys), Jody would move to reform her court in her own "casting drive", such taking her to Japan where she heard of a cursed lilim-empowered magical tome, the Bible Black. That...is another story.
