Straight-on low camera looking up past the near lip of an enormous white ceramic plate: the mermaid sits at its center facing the viewer, her light blue-scaled tail coiled around her hips and swept forward along the porcelain, its translucent fluke draped over the plate's front edge between her and the lens. Her turquoise hair falls long past her shoulders and pools on the white glaze, and from both sides of her head the head fins fan out, the webbing catching the light; a strip of bare scalp runs over the crown and both temples, nothing resting on it, the turquoise strands parted clean around it. Her white seashell bra cups sit high and full, the scalloped ridges shadowed underneath, and the exaggerated curve of waist and hip presses into the plate where she props herself up on one palm flat against the ceramic, the other hand clenched at her collarbone.
