The elytra split down the center of its back into two jagged halves and stick out slightly sideways, and beneath them the edges of thin translucent wings show, catching a pale amber rim. The camera sits at knee height at the bottom of the underpass, tilted up so the parapet cuts a hard diagonal across the frame and the creature's mass bottoms out against the night sky. Lighting comes only from a single sodium streetlamp off-frame low and to the left, throwing warm orange up the underside of the ledge and the creature's throat and lower face while leaving the top of its carapace in deep cool shadow; its cast shadow stretches across the wet concrete beneath it and the puddles beneath the ledge mirror it dimmer and softer. The only light is a single caged fixture overhead and behind the figure: it rims the antennae and the top edge of the carapace in a cold white-green line, throws a hard shadow of the reaching arm and open claws down across its own face and chest so the underside of the head sits in darkness, and puts a weak, broken reflection of the corridor's far end on the wet floor below. Palette is teal shadow, rust and tarnished bronze on the shell, black in the recesses, and a thin green-white at the light source.
