USS Port Hope
Shipgirl AI of USS Port Hope, namesake of a town which formerly was in Ontario's Durham County not far from Cobourg, but was switched to Northumberland County when most of Durham became part of a regional municipality with Ontario County in 1974. She takes the form of a Caucasian teenager here, but she's no normal Terran girl but an adopted Phäeton in heart. Phäetons are a race of recently-evolved telepaths whose ancestors migrated from Earth at the end of the Third World War in 2079; thanks to outside interference (the Preservers, maybe?), they would up on a planet where their children developed such abilities...then on "seeing" the memories of the bloody war that cost over half a billion lives on the "old pad", launched a counterculture revolution that the youth protesting Vietnam over a century before couldn't BEGIN to dream of no matter how high they got. As was revealed when USS Cornwallis discovered the planet in 2345, "This time, the hippies HAD to take over the establishment." Like many of her sisters, Port Hope was woken as the synthetic "soul" of a modified Sabre-class frigate built at Port Weller's works over Phäeton, she becoming self-aware and fully active in 2371. And while she spoke in the local dialect of English used on that world, she was quite the sharp cookie when it came to doing her duties, especially when the Dominion War came along three years later. She performed well in that conflict, though she would often visit the "home pad" to get members of the deadly Hunt Commune (those Phäetons who trained with Gorn warriors to be the ultimate psionic hunters, able to pick out Founders by the psionic "blank spot" they presented to their would-be killers) involved in the fight. Port Hope would last in her original hull until 2386, switching that out for a Da Vinci-class mine warfare destroyer which took her through Frontier Day to today. Encountering the members of the First Assault Squadron who had chased off Earth the last of the Phäetons' ancestors in the Battle of Space Station Perfection in 2079, all Port Hope had to say was "They're chill." Port Hope perpetuates a Royal Canadian Navy minesweeper which served in World War Two, being held in reserve post-war until she was scrapped.
