USS Midland
Shipgirl AI of USS Midland, named in honour of a small port town in Ontario's Simcoe County on the shore of one arm of Georgian Bay. Said town sits near the site of the famous Jesuit mission fort Sainte-Marie-among-the-Hurons and the nearby Shrine of the Canadian Martyrs that marks the suffering of six Roman Catholic priests during the harsh Beaver Wars that rocked what was then known as "Huronia" during the mid-XVII Century. In salute to the sacrifice made by French explorers even if their actions would NEVER be allowed in the modern-day Federation, Midland moulded herself after a teenage daughter of France. She perpetuates HMCS Midland, a Flower-class corvette which was built at the like-named shipyard in town to serve in World War Two. One of the "middle sisters" of the sixth-generation Port Weller girls, Midland was woken to be the synthetic "soul" of a Sabre-class frigate, such being commissioned in the standard "atmospheric pattern entry" ceremony over both the Sainte-Marie site and the Martyrs' Shrine in 2363; much to her personal delight, His Holiness the Pope himself would come to bless the ship on its voyage to the stars. That first commission would last for fifteen years, seeing her through the Dominion War with no ship lost but with the visual "de-aging" of the crew as more experienced service personnel were drawn off to help form new starship crews to make up for the losses. Midland would commission an improved Sabre-class hull in 2380, that lasting for twenty years before being paid off. And she was at Port Weller's Luna Orionis works awaiting her new Da Vinci-class hull when Frontier Day happened on Earth, forcing her to fast-activate said hull to respond to the incident. She serves to this day.
