Deanna Hordye

One of the three senior non-commissioned members of the First Assault Squadron (SALRON One), the Questor-only special missions unit created by then-Lieutenant Colonel Roy Jameston in the 2050s to deal with the aftereffects of the Eugenics War and the Second American Civil War on Canada before and after First Contact with Vulcan in 2063. Said unit would remain together through the final phase of the Third World War, the so-called "Optimum War" that raged over Earth for a decade, ending in the battle for Space Station Perfection on 4 July 2079. In that fight, the leaders of the Optimum Movement for the Purification of Humanity (a Khmer Rouge-like organization who wished to remove the "non-optimal" from Terran society) under Colonel Phillip Green fled the planet after unleashing a final act of "purification" which unleashed the Post-Atomic Horror. During that conflict (not discovered until much later), thousands of supporters of the Optimum would flee the planet via sleeper ships that took them to planets like Phäeton and beyond. In that last battle, Jameston and her force would disappear as well...though a comatose Jameston would be found by a Vulcan survey ship three years later, she then being moved to the Khal Fortress on Vulcan where she would rebuild her life as Roy Pannam. The remainder of her unit would be allowed to "escape" their fate via the Guardian of Forever, travelling forward through time to the Battle of Frontier Day in 2401, where they helped Jameston recover her memories, then they moved to free the large Starfleet contingent over Earth from Borg and Changeling attempts at seizing control to destroy Earth and gut the Federation from within. While the veterans of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D would confront the Borg Queen directly over Jupiter's Great Red Spot, the majority of SALRON One — supported by hundreds of starships built by Port Weller Spacedocks that avoided the issue with the upgraded Borderlands virtual reality program thanks to their being directly touched by "Race Zero" (as the Collective derisively called Questors as a whole) — would sweep in to help ensure no hidden traps were set up by the possessed junior officers and servicemen, plus kill off rogue Changelings (who had been separated from the Great Link for an inordinately long period of time) to ensure another Dominion War would be launched. Hordye hails from Welland; she is two years older than her future lover Mary Watson. Born in the time of relative peace between the end of the Cold War and the start of the long Third World War period, she would take interest in military matters quite early in life, joining an Army Cadet Corps affiliated with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment in 2018 and rising through the ranks until she became of age as a cadet chief warrant officer (and corps regimental sergeant-major) by 2023. By that time, the general mobilization of the Canadian milita in the wake of the outbreak of the Second American Civil War was underway and while she was tempted to join her old cadet corps' affiliated regiment, a new option came up with the reformation of the 2nd/10th Dragoons, the local cavalry regiment which had been converted into artillery in 1946 and reduced to nil strength in 1970. Joining as an armoured soldier, her leadership skills soon showed early, which saw her rise up through the ranks quite quickly for a Militia soldier; she would become sergeant in 2029, be made a troop warrant officer in 2033 and become squadron sergeant-major (and promoted to master warrant officer) of "C" Squadron in 2038. By then, she had made the acquaintance of another native of Welland, Mary Watson, who served in the Lincoln and Welland and the two began to date. Jameston would try to head-hunt both of them for her future "special assault unit", but while they were intrigued by becoming effectively ageless (and strong enough to deal with any of Khan Noonien Singh's allies single-handedly), Hordye and Watson declined; while effectively mobilized, both were also feeling the urge to settle down and start a family. In 2051, both would be badly woulded in the Battle of Niagara as their brigade supported the special assaulters of HMCS Cornwallis against the last Augment-driven remnants of rebel forces in New York State. Cornwallis' chief medical officer Surgeon Lieutenant (Navy) Amanda Colborne was able to show them both the benefits of becoming Questors. They finally accepted and crossed into the Fold on New Year's Day in 2052, with Hordye being made the new unit's sergeant-major and Watson falling in as a troop warrant officer. From that point to the trip through time to 2401 and Frontier Day, Watson's story went along with the rest of SALRON One. Arriving aboard USS Cornwallis NCC-61943 thanks to the Guardian of Forever, she personally escorted Surg Lt(N) Colborne with the crystal bearing their once-lost commander's memories pre-Silence, seeing Roy Pannam properly restored as Roy Jameston. With the majority of the squadron ordered to Earth under temporary command of Jameston's would-be lover Lieutenant Colonel Adrienne (née Adrik) Thorsen, Colborne was detached with a squad of British Army Gurkhas to USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D while Jameston and her command team remained on Cornwallis to direct her to Barnard's Star, where the unimatrix of the new Borg Cooperative was located, it being assaulted by the Borg Queen (over Jupiter) with help from a possessed Jack Crusher. What happened next is still seen as [CLASSIFIED] even if the rumours are flying thick. Hordye would take her command team (squadron physician's assistant Captain Dana McLeod from St. John's in Newfoundland, squadron headquarters sergeant Harley Gilbert from Windsor in Québec and senior signalman Master Corproal Nichole Bass from Prince Rupert in British Columbia) aboard USS Niagara NCC-22457 to clear out the Borg and Changeling infestation aboard the Galaxy-X dreadnought, then move on to deal with dozens of other ships over Earth. Once it was all said and done, everyone was demobilized and allowed to reunite with their pre-SALRON One parent regiments, all of whom remain active in the Canadian militia, naval militia and air force reserve. Of course, Hordye and Watson elected to settle down...but with several Port Weller girls taking direct interest in the couple and their friends...! "Dee...?" "Yes, dear?" (*Fort Erie purrs*) "I get better grooming here than in the Sublime Place, nya...!"
