Seen from above in a high-angle shot, a young girl strains beneath the burden of an oversized kite-shaped steel tower shield, peering up with an intensely pleading expression. Her chestnut, shoulder-length hair spills forward past her temples as her head tilts upward toward the viewer. Her brows are drawn together and steeply arched in distress; her wide amber eyes shimmer with glassy, pooling tears that reflect the bright sky, and her pink lower lip quivers in a pronounced downturned pout with flushed, reddened cheeks. Both of her hands cling tightly to the reinforced upper edge and leather-wrapped side brace of the massive shield, her knuckles pale against the metal rim. The shield’s heavy base rests planted squarely on the ground between her sturdy brown leather boots, its pointed bottom edge biting into the seam of a cobblestone courtyard path and pressing a distinct groove into the compacted dust. She crouches slightly behind the metal bulwark, knees bent and torso tucked forward so only her head, gripping fingers, and the shoulders of her cream-colored padded gambeson tunic peek over the shield's curved crest. The surrounding stone courtyard is washed in soft, bright daylight with a soft pastel palette of powder blue, warm cream, and muted slate. The rendering adheres to a flat, clean anime style defined by light, rounded linework, minimal soft cel-shading, and smooth, uniform color fills across simplified forms. Plaintive and endearing.
