From below at a low angle looking upward, a high school girl stands paused on a quiet residential asphalt road, gazing up into the open starry night sky. Her chin is lifted high and her head tilts back, with her shoulder-length dark hair falling gently away from her neck across the navy sailor collar of her white uniform blouse. Her weight is settled back on one foot, one hand loosely grasping the strap of her school satchel slung across her chest while the other hand rests relaxed at her side, her lips softly parted in quiet reverie. Beside her, a tall concrete utility pole with a cylindrical transformer rises into the frame, its network of dark power lines cutting clean diagonal silhouettes across the deep indigo and cobalt vault of the star-filled sky. Mounted on the pole, a single streetlamp casts a warm, defined cone of golden light downward, washing over her upturned face, the crest of her shoulders, and the pleats of her skirt, throwing a crisp, elongated shadow behind her across the coarse texture of the asphalt. Motes of floating dust glow like pinpoint embers where they drift through the bright core of the lamplight before vanishing into the surrounding nocturnal darkness. Quiet wonder.
