Full-body vertical composition from a slightly low angle. A slender plague doctor stands upright at an imposing height of 190 centimeters beside a heavy dark oak apothecary table, his weight settled squarely on high black leather boots. He is clad in deep black attire beneath a long hooded tunic of smooth, tanned black leather that drapes past his knees, with the spacious leather hood drawn over his head to cast deep shadow around a stark white, smooth-curved beak-like mask. Within the dark eye recesses of the ivory beak, two round lenses blaze with a luminous yellow-orange ember-like glow, his gaze directed firmly downward at the parchment spread before him. A battered, dark-brown leather medical bag hangs across his torso, suspended by a wide strap crossing diagonally from right shoulder to left hip, its buckled flap resting against his thigh. His right gloved fingertips rest lightly against the worn edge of the wooden table to anchor his posture, while his left arm hangs straight beside his leather coat. Upon the cluttered tabletop, scattered handwritten sheets of curled sepia parchment covered in dense script and diagrammatic notes lie beneath an assortment of glass vials, beakers, and alchemical flasks containing glowing teal liquids, alongside a single melting tallow candle. Directly behind him, a massive floor-to-ceiling bookcase carved from dark timber rises to fill the background, its shelves crowded with hundreds of ancient leather-bound grimoires, cracked gilt spines, and rolled scrolls nestled into cubbies. Extreme baroque chiaroscuro governs the space: warm amber candlelight glints off the polished leather shoulders and illuminates the wood grain, while a faint, cool teal bioluminescence rises from the glass vessels to cast colored refraction caustics across the handwritten papers below. Deep tenebrist shadows swallow the room's periphery, executed in rich impasto brushwork with visible paint ridges and palpable linen canvas texture, dramatic and mysterious.
