A side view captures two girls in a fierce flexibility contest, positioned side-by-side on a royal blue gymnasium mat. Both girls are locked in a deep seated forward fold; their legs are perfectly straight and their torsos are pressed completely flat against their thighs, faces buried inches from their shins. Their arms are strained, stretched far past their feet toward the floor. Their entire bodies tremble with violent effort, muscles quivering. Both have faces bright red with intense exertion, mouths wide open as they gasp for air in heavy, ragged pants. Thick droplets of sweat pour from their chins, dripping directly onto the fabric of their legs. Their white PE shirts are soaked translucent, clinging tightly and stretching across their arched backs, while their navy blue buruma are drenched and darkened by sweat. Their bare toes curl tightly against the blue mat from the strain. One girl has blue hair tied into double buns that hang down toward the floor; the other has purple twintails that drape similarly. The bright, overhead fluorescent lighting of the gym creates sharp highlights on the sweat-slicked skin and the damp, clinging fabric. Intense physical struggle.
