A bold black-and-white woodcut engraving in the style of Albrecht Dürer — strong black linework, dense engraved hatching, aged cream paper, enclosed in a simple printed border frame. MONOCHROME: the entire picture is black ink on cream paper — figures, grass, path, water, sky, all rendered purely in engraved line and hatching with NO color tint anywhere. The ONE exception: the apples on the guarded tree are distinctly, vividly RED — a single spot of hand-tinted red, the only color in the whole image. Wide horizontal landscape, all figures drawn at the SAME natural scale — humans, scarecrow and tree alike. The layout: A mown garden path runs horizontally across the picture from the LEFT edge to the RIGHT edge. In the RIGHT portion of the picture, a VERY NARROW ribbon of a stream flows from the horizon down toward the lower edge, running BETWEEN the scarecrow and the apple tree — the stream clearly separates the scarecrow's side from the tree's side. Where the path crosses this slim stream, two thick rough planks lie flat across the water as a humble footbridge. The scarecrow stands on the NEAR bank — the same side as the approaching humans — planted well BACK from the path, deep in the grass toward the horizon, clearly BEHIND the path line with a wide stretch of open meadow between his feet and the edge of the path, nowhere touching the path, the bridge, or the stream. He waits between the humans and the plank crossing like a sentinel barring the way to the bridge, placed right of center near the golden-section point, closer to the tree. His costume reads unmistakably as GLOSSY BLACK LATEX, rendered in solid black ink with white highlight strokes for the wet-shine reflections on arms, torso and legs, stuffed plump with straw. His head is a tall CYLINDRICAL LATEX HOOD like a knight's great-helm — a smooth black cylinder with round button eyes and a short straight stitched mouth line, a completely deadpan, unimpressed expression. Straw bursts from the sleeve cuffs, the foot cuffs, and the neck seam of the hood. A horizontal wooden crossbar lashed behind his shoulders serves as his arms, its bare wooden tips visible sticking out past the cuff straw. Above him floats an anachronistic modern white comic speech bubble with a pointed tail reading "NONE SHALL PASS!" in bold black block capitals. On the FAR bank of the narrow stream, at the right side of the picture, stands the guarded apple tree, heavy with RED apples — the only red in the picture; the faint orchard along the background horizon carries only pale blossom, drawn in pure line. Beyond the bridge the path continues past the tree and exits the right edge. At the left of the picture, walking toward the right along the path toward the bridge: bearded Adam in a fig-leaf loincloth, and long-haired Eve in a fig-leaf bottom covering her breasts with her hands, both mid-stride, looking toward the scarecrow. Strong figure-ground clarity, clean period-print texture.
