Mika Jougasaki's Sunny Beach Getaway!

I just had to draw the lovely Mika relaxing under the summer sun, and I think the vibrant red hair and stylish sunglasses capture her playful charm perfectly! There's something so peaceful about seeing her unwind by the ocean that really makes me smile. If you enjoy this summery vibe, please leave a like and follow for more art, and let me know what you think in the comments!

More to See

character: makino_ruki 1girl, solo, makino_ruki, red hair, short hair, purple eyes, sunglasses, white bikini, bikini, lying on back, lying on towel, beach towel, under beach umbrella, sun umbrella, relaxing, arms behind head, one knee raised, head tilted to the side, looking to the side, shadow of a person, approaching shadow, shadow cast across the sand, beach, sand, ocean in background, from above, high angle, foreshortening, sunlight, hard light, strong shadows, warm palette, summer, wide shot, dutch angle, shot from above and slightly to the side, looking down on a young woman with short shaggy red hair lying flat on her back on a striped beach towel spread over pale sand. Her head is propped on her folded hands behind her neck, chin tilted so her face turns toward the right edge of the frame; the black sunglasses across her eyes catch two hard white sun glints and hide her gaze direction, and her purple eyes are closed behind the dark lenses. She wears a white bikini -- halter top tied at the nape, low hip briefs -- and nothing else; her bare feet point off toward the lower left, one knee is bent and raised so the sand shows beneath the arch of that foot, while the other leg lies flat. The light is a single hard summer sun from the upper left, so a crisp dark shadow falls to her right across the towel and under her raised knee, and the underside of her jaw and the inner curve of her waist fall into warm reflected shade from the sand. A broad beach umbrella stands planted in the sand at the upper left of the frame, its canopy tilted to cover her torso but leaving her shins and feet in full sun; its shadow lies across the upper half of the towel and its spokes print a faint radial pattern on the fabric. Loose red hair fans out around her head onto the towel's stripes, strands lifted slightly by a sea breeze, and a fine scatter of sand grains clings along her calf and the side of her hip where she shifted. Across the lower right corner of the sand, at the edge of the frame, a long human shadow falls into the picture from off-screen -- the silhouette of an approaching person, head and shoulders entering first, stretched by the low-angled light, its leading edge just touching the pale sunlit sand a hand's width from her towel, still short of her. She has not turned toward it; her chin remains tilted sideways and one corner of her mouth carries a faint slack, sun-warmed half-smile, chest rising in a slow relaxed breath. Behind her the flat sand runs to a thin band of darker wet shore and a pale blue sea with a low hard horizon; everything beyond the umbrella's shade is bleached bright. The palette holds white, hot sand cream, sea blue and the deep shadow grey with her red hair as the only saturated note. Lazy sun-drunk calm with a quiet prickle of unease.
