More to See

1girl, solo, castaway, stranded, deserted island, string bikini, gold and silver bikini, metallic fabric, bikini top, string panties, side-tie bikini bottom, barefoot, long hair, windblown hair, from above, from behind, looking back, kneeling, one knee up, shoreline, waves, wet sand, palm fronds, driftwood, over-the-shoulder composition, dutch angle, wide shot Shot from above and slightly behind her, tilted a few degrees off level: she kneels in the wet sand at the waterline, seen over her right shoulder as she twists her torso back toward the camera, chin turned up, one eye visible past the fall of her wind-thrown hair, the other buried in it. Her weight rests on the right knee and shin; the left knee is drawn up, left foot flat, toes dug into the sand with a small ridge of displaced grains pushed up around the ball of the foot. Her right hand is planted in the sand behind her for balance, fingers spread, wrist bent; her left hand hangs loose with fingertips just breaking the surface of the foam. Her hair sweeps left to right across the frame, strands lifted and dragged sideways off her shoulders, one lock stuck flat to her cheekbone. The gold and silver string bikini top is cut from a single metallic cloth so the two tones braid across the cups, gold sliding into silver in a shifting gradient, the thin strings knotted behind her neck and between her shoulder blades pulled taut by her twisted pose; the matching string bottoms sit low on her hips with the two side-ties knotted and the loose tails flicked out sideways in the wind. The midday sun stands almost directly overhead and slightly behind her, a hard rim of white light along her shoulders, spine and the sand ridge; her face falls into warm open shade and her shadow pools short and dark beneath her knees, sliding into the sand's own darker wet band. The sea behind her climbs the frame from the top edge down: a shallow turquoise shelf, then a deep blue band, then the white broken line of small waves running diagonally across the composition; a leaning palm trunk and a fan of shredded fronds cut the right edge, a bleached driftwood log lies half-buried in the sand at lower left. Sand in a range of bleached bone, ochre and wet brown; sea in turquoise and deep blue; skin warm and sun-flushed; the only other colour the two-tone metal, flashing gold on the sunlit edges of the strings and silver where the cloth turns from the light. The tide has already eaten the edges of her knee-prints, water seeping up the hollows. Hot, wind-scoured, quietly defiant.
