1girl, solo, close-up, face focus, hockey mask, blood splatter, blood on mask, messy hair, black hair, asymmetrical hair, one side long hair, one side short hair, bald spots, mud in hair, wet hair, water dripping, dark green shirt, worn shirt, leather jacket, worn leather jacket, black winter gloves, dark pants, worn pants, chains, steel chains hanging from pants, holding machete, wide blade, leaning forward, outstretched arm, extended hand, combat boots, black boots, worn boots, wooden cabin interior, worn wooden walls, abandoned camp, horror, cold light, palette of dark green, black, rust brown, wet grey
The view is a tight close-up held on her masked face, so the frame runs from the crown of her head down to her collarbones and one shoulder, the hockey mask dominating the centre of the composition at a slight three-quarter turn to the right rather than square to the lens. She is leaning forward at a shallow angle, hips pushed back out of frame, shoulders rolled forward and her weight tipped onto the balls of her feet, so the mask and the top of her chest carry the whole image and press toward the viewer; below the crop line her body simply falls away. Blood is splattered across the mask in dried dark-red flecks and one long smeared streak dragged diagonally from the upper left of the mask down across its cheek, some of it matte and some of it still wet and glossy at the low points. Her black hair hangs dirty and matted: on the left of frame it falls in a long lank strand past the jaw, on the right it is hacked to a short uneven tuft above the ear; the scalp shows through in two or three bald patches with a rough chewed edge, and wet mud is caked into the strands near the crown in grey-brown crusts that break into the black. Water drips everywhere -- beads hanging off the bottom rim of the mask, off the tip of the long strand, off the mud crusts -- and where those drips break they leave bright translucent trails down the mask, down her neck, and dark soaking tongues spreading through the collar of her dark green shirt. The machete is held in her gloved right hand, brought up into the near foreground so the wide flat blade cuts diagonally across the lower right of frame, its edge catching a single wet highlight and the blade partly crossing in front of her shoulder; the black winter glove grips it with the knuckles bunched and the cuff cinched tight at the wrist. Her left hand is thrust toward the camera so it enters the bottom left of frame, glove open, fingers spread and slightly curled as though reaching for something just out of shot, foreshortened large and soft at the front edge of focus. Behind her the wooden cabin wall fills the background: wide vertical planks, split and warped, grey-brown with age, one plank sprung, dark moss and old dark stains in the seams, a rusted nail head here and there, and the wall falling into unlit darkness at the left and right edges of the crop. A single cold grey light comes from a door or broken window off frame to the left and slightly behind the viewer, so the left side of the mask, the long strand of hair and the blade's flat catch the light while the right side of her face and the deep wall behind drop into shadow; the drops on the mask throw tiny bright specular points and their shadows fall to the right. The palette holds to black, dark green, wet grey and rust brown with the only hot red in the blood. Grim, claustrophobic
