2boys, boy, young boy, short messy brown hair, striped red and white t-shirt, blue denim overalls, bound wrists, ropes, hemp rope, tied to chair, wooden chair, ball gag, red ball gag, black straps, gagged, wide-eyed, sweat, trembling, struggling, looking up, witch, old woman, ugly, wrinkled skin, long nose, warts, crooked yellow teeth, malicious grin, tattered black wool dress, pointed black hat, long crooked fingernails, reaching out, leaning forward, cauldron, boiling, potion, steam, bubbles, green liquid, fire, firewood, haunted castle interior, stone walls, arched window, cobblestones, pumpkins, jack-o'-lantern, jack-o'-lantern smile, bats, flying bat, ghosts, floating ghost, translucent, vampires, vampire, fangs, cape, from below, dutch angle, wide shot, dramatic lighting, low key, rim light The shot is taken from low near the flagstones and canted a few degrees off level, so the boy's chair sits small in the right foreground while the witch's tall hat cuts the top-left of the frame: both faces stay visible, the witch looming down into the lens, the boy staring up past her at the vaulted ceiling. The boy is a young boy with short messy brown hair, in a striped red and white t-shirt under blue denim overalls; thick hemp rope crosses his chest, loops his upper arms to the wooden chair back, and binds his wrists behind the stiles, the coils biting into the cotton and leaving pale compressed bands at his shoulders. A round red silicone ball gag sits in his mouth, the black strap running taut across both cheeks and buckle-tight behind his hair. He kicks one bare heel against a chair leg, weight pitched forward, eyes wide and wet, jaw working uselessly around the gag, a bead of sweat sliding from his temple to his jawstrap. The witch leans over him from the left, back curved, one crooked-nailed hand lifting his chin, the other holding a dripping ladle; her weathered face is all wrinkles and warts, a long nose and crooked yellow teeth bared in a delighted grin, one eye squinted small, and her tattered black wool dress hangs in shreds below her knees beneath the tall pointed black hat, whose crown brushes the shadowed rafters. The black cauldron on its fire sits between them in the midground: the potion boils and surges with fat green bubbles, steam rising to curl around the boy's face and fog the camera's air, and the firelight from below paints the underside of the witch's chin, the boy's throat and the cauldron's belly, while everything above the flames lies in deep blue-black shadow. The castle interior closes them in: rough stone walls, a broken arched window letting in cold blue moonlight that rims the witch's shoulders, split pumpkins grinning on the floor in the foreground with one carved face catching firelight, bats hanging and one bat beating across the top of the frame, two translucent ghosts drifting through the stone with the window's moon glow showing through their ribs, and a pair of pale vampires standing in the far doorway, capes drawn up, fangs visible, watching without moving. Palette held to black and wet grey stone, venom green in the potion, pumpkin orange at the floor, and cold moon blue on the window side. Warm vapor sheeting off the cauldron's liquid condenses only on the upward-facing brim of the iron and on the witch's hat brim. Cruel and claustrophobic.
