The facility grounds dominate the frame: a cluster of sprawling corrugated processing halls with ridged metal roofs, tall thin vent stacks, cylindrical storage tanks, pipe racks running in parallel lines across the yards, and long loading bays with rail spurs threaded between them. The scale is large — the architecture reads as a sprawling works seen from a great height, and the mecha are what give it size. Across the midground a squad of towering bipedal war machines, heavy armored frames with layered plate and exposed shoulder-mounted missile pods, is cutting through the compound. One strides over a torn perimeter fence with a roaring thruster flare behind it, a long energy rifle leveled down at the yard. Another stands braced at the near edge of the loading bay, an enormous boxy artillery cannon pivoting at the hip, the barrel just firing — a white-hot muzzle flash and a hard muzzle ring blooming off its tip, the recoil visibly rocking the whole frame back on its rear stabilizer foot, the ground beneath cracked into a shallow crater with dust fountaining radially. A third is half-turned mid-stride, boosting thrusters trailing twin exhaust plumes behind it as it sweeps a shoulder towards a hall. Their long shadows rake across the concrete planes, and their thruster wash blasts radial streaks of dust outward across the roof surfaces. Burning and exploding equipment tears the compound: a ruptured storage tank lies split open with flame roaring out of the breach and a boiling column of black smoke climbing straight up, lit orange from beneath so its underside glows and its upper rolls dark. A processing hall's roof buckles and gouts of fire push through the failing metal. All along the yard, small fires glint off the pipework and flare across puddles of burning fuel, with secondary detonations throwing shards of debris upward. Smoke drifts layering depth across the frame from the near ground back to the stacks. Multiple vehicles are on the grounds: a cluster of tracked armored personnel carriers grinding across a service road, one slewing hard to a stop with its rear kicking up a fan of gravel and grip-roostertailing dust, a couple of flatbed transports scattered on the yard and one tilted at the edge of a crater. Multiple MTs — squat, small, insectile walking gun platforms with thin jointed legs and blunt armored bodies — scuttle in support of the mecha, one firing a short-barreled autocannon from a crouch, flash and tracer spatting from its muzzle, another knocked sideways and smoldering, propped against a toppled barrier. Guard soldiers are everywhere among the concrete blocks and barriers: one in olive-drab tactical armor and matte black ballistic helmet planted in a braced firing stance behind a waist-high concrete block, rifle shouldered, cheek to the stock; a second crouched low against the same barrier line, one knee on the ground, shouting into a wrist-mounted radio while his other hand presses his helmet rim; a third sprinting flat-out across an open stretch of the yard, sidearm out and arm pumping, smoke whipping past him. Others lie prone in firing positions along the barricades, muzzle flashes winking from their rifles, tracer lines streaking flat across the concrete. Their figures are genuinely small against the architecture — the shot's whole truth is how little the soldiers are. Muzzle flashes and tracer fire rake in every direction: streams of rounds from the soldiers' line into the mecha's lower hulls, the mecha's cannons and the MT autocannons hammering downward, a shell impact blooming into a hard-edged bright burst among the yard crates with a shock ring and flying gravel. Burned craters pock the concrete in a scattered chain back toward the camera. Lighting: the fires and explosions are the dominant warm source, low-key orange and red flaring up from the ruptured tanks, the burning halls and the impact bursts, throwing the yard into a hot underlit register against the cool blue-grey overcast sky above. The firelight rims the tops of the mecha and catches the edges of the smoke columns; the smoke itself glows amber at its base and turns cold charcoal higher up; long, hard shadows of the mecha and vehicles stretch away from the fires across the concrete. Palette: sooty charcoal and asphalt grey for the architecture and ground, cool steel blue in the sky and smoke tops, hot orange and ember red for the fires and muzzle flash, olive drab for the soldiers' armor and vehicles; nothing else admitted. Cel-shaded anime rendering with crisp linework, flat hard-edged shading on the mecha plating and the soldiers' armor, painterly smoke and flame, deep atmospheric depth through the layered smoke. Mood: chaotic, scorched, desperate.
