More to See

1girl, solo, adult woman, black bob hair, shoulder-length hair, blunt bangs, dark eyes, red blazer, white collar, white blouse, short black pencil skirt, black opaque tights, black low-heel pumps, promotional staff, holding a flip phone, cell phone, lanyard, name tag, standing on one leg, leaning forward, from above, looking up at viewer, slight dutch angle, retail electronics store interior, 2005, mid-2000s Japanese consumer electronics shop, shelves of flip phones, display counter, fluorescent lighting, grin, open mouth, one eye closed, Shot from above and slightly to her right, so the store floor and the top of her display counter fall away beneath her: a woman in her mid-twenties crouches into a half-kneel behind the counter, weight sunk onto her left hip, right knee lifted, right hand holding a silver flip phone up toward the lens with the screen flipped open and turned so the viewer sees it, thumb resting on the keypad ready to press, left palm braced flat on the counter edge for balance, three fingertips just past the edge, wrist bent. Her red blazer is bright and flat-lit, white collar turned and lying crisp against the red, sleeves pushed to the wrist, one small lapel name tag clipped on; the short black pencil skirt pulls tight across the thigh of her raised knee, black opaque tights continuing into low-heeled black pumps, the right pump's toe barely scraping the floor. Black bob hair swings forward off both cheeks with the crouch, one lock crossing her brow, bangs parting. She grins open-mouthed, one eye squeezed shut, cheek bunched, the other eye rolled up to the viewer under a lifted brow, teasing and a little conspiratorial, as though letting the customer in on the deal. Her black lanyard strap hangs away from her chest in a shallow catenary, caught mid-swing from the movement. The store around her is 2005 Japanese electronics retail: a long aisle of white metal shelving receding to the right, rows of candybar and flip phones pegged in blister packs and standing in clear acrylic step-displays, small colored price tags reading 「新規」「機種変更」 in marker, a cardboard standee of a clamshell phone at the shelf end, a tower of boxed handsets stacked behind the counter, walls in shop-white with a red horizontal stripe running the length of the aisle. Foreground occupies the lower third: the glossy laminate counter top with a printed paper POP card lying flat and the coiled anti-theft tethers snaking off the edge, a small desk stand of dummy phones with their cables tangled. Light from a ceiling grid of fluorescent tubes, cool green-white, evenly bathing everything from above and slightly behind the camera; soft multiple shadows fall straight down beneath her chin and the counter lip, and small specular glints sit on the phone's chrome hinge, the acrylic stands and the sheen of her tights, with the shelf undersides darker than their tops. The tether cables lie in loose loops where they've been dropped, each one resting in a slack curve rather than pulled taut. Palette is shop-white, red and black against the pale cool grey of the shelving, with dots of yellow and blue on the price tags and packaging. Bright, breezy, cheerfully sales-floor.
