History: The Panama Papers #Renascentia

[Author's note: Fellow history enthusiast Danclaw is currently running an event where users are asked to use their OCs and put them in a point in the past. For this I'm putting poor Orcland in 2016s Panama, where he's trying to run away with evidence that would implicate the world's wealthiest and most powerful in a giant international financial conspiracy!] The Panama Papers were an information leak of 11.5 million documents, detailing financial crimes of businessmen and former/current influential statesmen, some going as far back as the 1970's! Hell, even the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) had several shell corporation assets exposed by this information leak! Do you know the wildest part: This happened only 10 years ago and hardly anyone ever talks about it. I would assume that is due to 1) Oversaturation and choice of information in the digital age 2) Cynicism in regards to government/business (e.g. "Well OF COURSE they did corruption! That's what politicians/businessmen do!") 3) Media censorship and/or 4) A lot of people are overworked and don't have the time to follow international events. There have been all manner of articles/essays written about The Panama Papers. I would start with the Wikipedia article either first or have it open along side any secondary or tertiary documents you're looking up. Orc god bless all of those weirdos and pedantic nerds who obsess over their passions and put in the unpaid work of keeping information alive! 🫡 *I can't take credit for the term "ens█itification." I forgot where I first heard it, but it stuck with me because it's almost the perfect way to describe the slow and ongoing degradation of the internet experience.
