Her mother, who despised her red eyes, poured lead into them, causing her to go blind, and then abandoned her.It is revealed that the blind girl has a younger sister. As the older sister, she has no other way to survive and support them both except by begging. However, because many people hate the "Cursed Children," she is often teased and bullied while begging. Some people would toss pull-tabs from soda cans into her begging bowl, tricking her into thinking they were coins. Upon hearing the sound, she would still offer a sincere "Thank you."When Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara pass by and encounter her, Rentaro gives her some money and urges her to leave the dangerous streets, but she does not. When Rentaro meets her again, he finds her being bullied by a group of people and rescues her.In both the source material and the anime, the Blind Girl has a very small role; she is little more than a minor background character.
