Seen from below, a low camera planted near the floor in a room barely bigger than a closet, so the whole frame tilts up her rising body and the ceiling cuts flat across the top of the shot. A female cat figure with soft purple fur and a mane of purple hair gathered into a high ponytail with a small topknot above it sits jammed on the black-and-white checkered floor with her back pressed flat to a checkered-papered wall, and her tall cat ears and the crown of her head already flatten against the ceiling, fur and hair squashed where they meet it. One gloved hand is slapped flat against the checkered wall beside her shoulder, fingers spread wide, wrist cuff crushed against the paper; her other white fur-trimmed glove is caught mid-clench against her own thigh. Her legs are spread wide apart and pulled up, both knees drawn toward her chest with her striped-pantyhose feet lifted clear of the floor, bloomers and petticoat rucked and bunched at her hips, her blue frilled dress and white frilled apron riding up over the raised knees, the apron's hem hiked and its bow knocked askew so the low lens looks straight up the underskirt. She leans forward over her own knees, head tipped to one side until her cheek nearly meets her shoulder, the jewel on her forehead catching the light, her yellow eyes with their long lashes locked straight down into the lens, gritted teeth showing between her parted lips, a single worried crease between her brows and sweat beading at her temple. Her long purple cat tail is squeezed out to one side, coiled flat along the checkered skirting with the tip flicking up. The room's only light comes from a bare bulb off-frame to her left: it rakes across the checkered wall, throws the grid into hard perspective on the floor, and buries the corners behind her in shadow, while her body casts a huge soft shadow up the wall she is pinned to. Palettes held tight to purple fur and hair, the blue of the dress, the white of apron and gloves, and the black-and-white checker of every surface. Claustrophobic, nervous.
