Seen from a low dutch angle that tilts the horizon and puts the night sky behind her shoulders, a single young woman hovers one metre above the snow, her whole body weightless, spine upright, boots hanging level and clear of the drift beneath her with a clean unbroken gap of air between sole and snow. Her hair is not hair but pink fire — a licking, upward-knotted mane of magenta and rose flame that streams sideways in the cold wind and pulls a faint warm rim of light across her cheekbone and the underside of her jaw. Her face is shut down and deadly serious: brows drawn level and low, lips pressed into a flat closed line, no smile, chin dipped very slightly so she looks up at the lens from under the brow; her lilac eyes carry tiny star-bright pinpoints inside the iris, fixed hard on the camera with no softening. Her right arm is thrust straight forward toward the viewer, foreshortened so the forearm reads large and the hand is nearest the lens, one index finger extended at the camera while the other fingers curl loosely; her left arm hangs relaxed at her side, hand open, nothing gripped.
She wears medieval plate — breastplate, pauldrons, bracers, faulds, greaves — where each plate is a shallow bowl of deep blue-black night, its surface a lattice of studded filament stars finer and denser along the edges and seams, the plates' steel rims catching a thin cold highlight; the armor is real plate, weighted and articulated, and it does not blow in the wind, while the fire hair and a loose cloth tabard hem do. Her boots dangle without footnote or shadow beneath them — the only shadow she casts lands far off on the snow as a small dark smear, proof she is airborne.
Behind and beside her, a log cabin sits on the upper slope, its snow-loaded roof hunched under a thick white cap, warm amber light spilling from two small windows and the door seam and falling in a long low rectangle across the snow toward her, where the lit snow grains sparkle. The mountain ridge rises dark behind the cabin and fades up into a deep indigo sky packed with stars and one bright moon high off-frame to the upper left; the moon is the only cold source, striking the cabin's left roof slope and the edges of her pauldrons, while the cabin windows are the only warm one, warming the snow below and the near side of her armor. Snow lies only on upward-facing surfaces — roof, sills, the tops of fence posts and boulders — while the vertical cabin logs stay bare; the falling flakes drift sideways through the moonlight in a fine slow current. Palette is held to cold indigo and silver-blue snow, warm amber at the windows, and the one hot magenta-rose of her burning hair, nothing else admitted. Deep detail on her face, her forward hand and the star-inlay plate edges; the distant peaks kept simple broad shapes. Quiet, imposing, cold.
