Chicana on 4th of July
Non-Americans sometimes wonder why Americans get so into our heritage. Most Mexicans in Mexico would not consider me Mexican. My family hasn't lived in Mexico for several generations and I can't speak Spanish. The reason is that America is a nation of immigrants. We're commonly described as a melting pot or salad bowl, because we come from all over and then come together to make something new. When Irish-Americans get excited about being Irish and Chicanos (Mexican ancestry, born in the USA) get excited about being Mexican, we're being proud of the ingredients we brought. Thus the image of Mexican Miku drinking bubble tea on the 4th of July.
