USS Sarnia

Shipgirl AI of USS Sarnia, one of the many synthetic "souls" of Sabre-class starships built by Port Weller Spacedocks; she would directly emerge from the affiliate shipyard over Luna Orionis in 2371, her hull modified to drop space mines in lieu of launch photon torpedoes. In that hull, she would endure through the Dominion War and last on until 2394 when she was paid off. Next came a Da Vinci-class starship modified as a mine warefare platform, meant to both lay and dispose of space mines wherever she goes. That one commissioned in 2396 and would serve on until the present day; naturally like so many Port Weller girls, Sarnia would endure Frontier Day without issue. Sarnia takes the form of a ruddy Orion, a considerable diaspora of which migrated to Canada in the XXII Century after first contact between Terrans and the Orionid species during the voyages of USS Enterprise NX-01. Like other shipgirls who take that physical form, she does not follow her adopted people's tradition of shaving their heads bald and using wigs, preferring "naturally grown" hair. Sarnia is named in honour of the "Imperial City" of Ontario, which was visited by the young Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) in the XIX Century. Sarnia is the home of Colonel (retired) Chris Hatfield, local pilot-turned-astronaut; naturally, the starship would have a shuttlecraft named in his honour. Said city is located where Lake Huron flows into the St. Clair River on its way to Lake Erie and eventually into the Atlantic Ocean; it is the largest city of Ontario's Lambton County and is directly connected to Michigan via the Blue Water Bridge and a long railway tunnel. HMCS Sarnia was a minesweeper from World War Two which would be put into reserve post-war, then later sold to Türkiye as TCG Büyükdere. Because of that, Sarnia the shipgirl has a zest for Turkish food.
