The film grain sits over all of it, coarsening the flat white areas and softening the wet highlights. Nothing in the patient's face acknowledges the smell, the sound, the swarm, the flatline: the smile stays the exact same angle, the exact same softness, held like a stamp impression. Quiet, unbearable dread.
