A wide shot from a low angle looking straight down the central stone aisle of a cavernous cathedral nave toward a distant sanctuary. Soaring clustered limestone columns flank both sides of the corridor, rising into delicate ribbed groin vaults overhead. Symmetrical rows of dark, polished oak pews line the floor, their varnished surfaces carrying soft specular highlights. High along the clerestory, tall lancet stained-glass windows filter late-afternoon sunlight into wide, slanted volumetric beams that cut through the cool ambient darkness. Thousands of suspended dust motes drift slowly and illuminate only where the rays strike them, vanishing immediately into the surrounding dimness. Elongated pools of vivid cobalt, emerald, and ruby light project onto the cool grey flagstone floor and warp across the fluting of the nearest pillars. At the far terminus of the nave, an elevated stone altar rests beneath a tall brass crucifix, flanked by clusters of lit votive candles casting warm, trembling orange glows across the carved reredos. The palette balances deep slate greys and shadowy indigo recesses against warm amber wood and brilliant jewel-toned caustics. Solemn serenity.
