The fur is white with faint blue-grey shading in the hollows of the chest, the cheeks and the undersides of the legs, long guard hairs hanging from the ruff and belly, snow clinging in small clumps along the top edge of the muzzle, the backs of the ears and the shoulders -- only on upward-facing surfaces, nowhere else. The wolf's hot breath plumes out in front of the muzzle and drifts back across the camera, softening the air between its face and the lens. The setting is a winter forest at dusk: bare black trunks and a few dark conifers receding behind the animal, the ground a field of unbroken snow with a shallow drift rising behind the forelegs, the wolf's own footprints trailing back into the middle distance. A single low, cool light comes from behind and to the left of the wolf, hard rim-light edging the ears, the ruff and the shoulder blades in pale cyan while the face itself stays in shadow except for the two small catchlights in the eyes; the snow in the middle distance sits a shade dimmer than the white fur so the animal separates from the background, and no other light source exists beyond that. Palette is a narrow cold range -- white, blue-grey shadow, black-green trees, and the faint amber of the eyes as the only warm note. A rim of snow on an exposed root in the foreground is the only thing sharp besides the wolf's face. Cold, watchful dread.
