A harsh double image offsets her silhouette a few millimetres to the left, red ink on one edge and cyan on the other, present only along the vertical contours—shoulders, jaw, the thrown-back throat—never on the flat interior of the jacket. Sweat and light bloom on the bridge of her nose and the skin of her neck. The vaster part of the frame is empty pale-grey, the figure small in it, sitting off-center low and right-of-center, with the left two-thirds of the image pure gradation. There is no ground, no horizon, no shadow contact—only a barely visible soft grey glow directly behind the head, as though the void itself were lit from somewhere outside the frame and every part of her body faces that light, the reverse of her face and the underside of the jaw going dim. Palette confined to desaturated grey, icy blue and pale cyan, with black hair and olive jacket the only darks; the chromatic fringes are the sole saturated notes. Quietly ecstatic, disintegrating.
