Her right shoulder overlaps the left end of the tag, the letters disappearing behind her and re-emerging on the other side. The floor is stained concrete, a shallow puddle off to the left holding a smeared, dimmer, softer reflection of the wall art, and beyond the pillars the night is total. The light is a single hard cold source off frame left, high and raking down across her: it catches the rim of her jaw and cheekbone and the whole flat plane of her bared stomach, lays a thin electric-blue edge along the lifted strands of her hair, and leaves the right side of her face and the underside of the jacket in deep shadow, so the teeth and the eyes are the brightest things in the upper half of the frame. A second, warmer sodium glow leaks in low from behind the pillar on the right, just enough to place the graffiti and to underline the toe of the raised boot. Black, denim blue and bare concrete hold the palette; the only other colour is the electric blue in her hair and the orange of the tag, both allowed to burn. Detail is spent on her face -- the thick brows, the set of the eyes, the exact parting of the lips over the teeth -- then on the hand in the pocket and the roll of denim at the ankle; the far pillars are simplified to big dark shapes. Cool, kinetic.
