At her feet, in the lower left foreground, a carved jack-o'-lantern sits lit from inside, its candle throwing a warm orange pool up onto her left boot and the underside of the chainsaw bar; the pumpkin's teeth-grin is the only light down there, and the light falls off fast — beyond the pumpkin's glow the darkness is nearly total, with just a cold faint blue rim catching the edge of her shoulder and the chain's teeth from a distant, unseen source. Her shadow climbs the ground behind her, long and broken by the pumpkin's glow. The white of the mask and the white of her unfocused eyes are the brightest things in the frame, both catching the same faint cold light, and the blood on her face is matte where it has dried and glossy where it is wet, so the wet patches hold small hard highlights. The overalls wrinkle and crease where the saw's weight drags them. Quiet dread.
