female soldiers, group of women, 4girls, military uniform, olive-green tailored military jacket, brass buttons, epaulettes, miniskirt, tight skirt, pencil skirt, black leather knee-high boots, pantyhose, running, fleeing, panic, terrified expressions, open mouth, screaming, running toward viewer, reaching toward camera, ants, giant ants, swarm of ants, insect swarm, being eaten, being devoured, two women caught by ants, ants crawling over bodies, pinned to ground, struggling, from above, wide shot, high angle, motion blur on background, dust, dry cracked ground, harsh noon sunlight From a high angle looking down on a wide stretch of dry cracked earth, four women in identical olive-green military uniforms are caught in the same instant of flight and slaughter. The uniforms are tailored: short jackets with brass buttons and epaulettes, cinched waists, and tight olive mini skirts that grip the hips and ride up at the thigh with each stride, black leather knee-high boots laced to the calf over sheer dark pantyhose. In the upper foreground two of them are still running, sprinting straight up toward the camera: the left one drives off her right boot, left leg thrown back, skirt pulled taut across her hip, one arm flung out ahead of her and the other pumping at her side, chin lifted, mouth wide open mid-scream, eyes fixed on the empty ground ahead of her feet; the right one is half a step behind, twisting as she runs to glance back over her shoulder at what is behind her, hair breaking loose, one hand clutching the hem of her skirt down against the wind of her own speed, her face screwed up in panic. Below and behind them, at the lower edge and center of the frame, two more lie on the ground and are being eaten: the one at lower left is on her back, both boots digging furrows in the dust, one forearm braced against the earth and the other hand clawing uselessly at the air, head thrown back, teeth bared, as three ants the length of her forearm clamp onto her thigh and shoulder and a fourth climbs over her hip; the one at lower right is on her side, curled, both hands clamped over her face, one boot half-dragged off, a column of ants pouring over her skirt and jacket and a big worker ant straddling her waist with its mandibles buried in the cloth. The ants are the size of small dogs, glossy dark red-brown, segmented, antennae twitching, and they stream in a single flowing column across the whole lower half of the frame, coming from the bottom right corner and spreading toward the two runners. The runners' cast shadows fall short and hard to the upper left; the sunlight is a single harsh noon source from the upper right, so every ant's carapace carries a small white specular highlight on its upward-facing shell and each body on the ground throws a crisp black shadow directly beneath it. Dust kicked up by the runners hangs in a low tan cloud at their heels, and the ants' tracks — thin parallel drag lines — are the only marks on the otherwise blank cracked ground. Palette: olive drab and black leather against bleached ochre earth, the only saturated color the dark rust-red of the ants. Terrifying, breathless.
