The camera looks down from above and slightly to the side at a sharp dutch tilt, so the frame is filled by two bodies locked together on the floor and nothing else. Oguri Cap — grown a little past her usual height, her grey hair longer than it used to be and falling forward in loose strands past her jaw — kneels over a woman in a worn, creased white shirt whose collar is pulled open and whose face lies entirely above the top edge of the frame: only the chin's shadow, the straining column of the throat, one shoulder and the twisted shirt fabric are in the picture. Oguri Cap's right knee is planted on the floor beside the trainer's ribs, her left thigh pressing across the trainer's hip, and both hands are clamped on the trainer's shoulders and upper arms, fingers dug into the wrinkled sleeve and the muscle beneath, pinning her flat. Her back is arched forward over the pinned body, her chest almost to the trainer's chest, and her head is bowed so that her face is buried against the side of the trainer's neck, nose and lips pressed into the skin just under the jaw, her mouth open against it in the act of leaving another mark. Around that mouth the neck is already covered in a scatter of small red-purple kiss marks, some fresh and wet-looking, some older and darker, running from the collarbone up behind the ear. Her eyes are open and flat, staring at nothing past the trainer's throat, her brow unreadable, and the only colour in her face is a warm flush high on both cheeks and the tips of her ears; one horse ear is angled forward against the trainer's jaw, the other flicked back. Her grey hair spills over the trainer's shoulder and across the marks. The off-shoulder knit has slipped further down her upper arms, the ribbed collar stretched wide below her bare shoulders, and the short skirt rides up where her thigh pins the trainer down. The trainer's hands are out of view; her body twists, the shirt pulling into deep diagonal creases where Oguri Cap's grip drags the cloth, and the loose collar bunches at the base of the throat. Single overhead light from the upper left, warm and slightly harsh, lays a bright edge along Oguri Cap's bare shoulder and the trainer's exposed throat, drops the hollows of the collarbone and the underside of Oguri Cap's chin into shadow, and casts a short hard shadow of her head onto the trainer's chest; the room beyond is out of the frame. Palette held to grey, cream, worn white and the muted red-purple of the marks, with the flush on her cheeks the warmest note. Shallow depth of field keeps the neck, the marks and her mouth sharp, the bare shoulder softening toward the frame edge. Quiet, unsettling intimacy.
