From a low angle looking up at her, one ordinary high-school-age girl stands alone in a seamless white studio void, backlit so the ground falls away into a soft pale gradient behind her hips. Her long white hair hangs loose and straight, unfastened, lifted at the ends by a small upward draft and drifting sideways off her shoulders; it is the brightest thing in the frame, one shade lighter than the near-white of her skin, which sits a half-tone warmer and casts a faint warm shadow under the jaw and along the throat. Her eyes are white too, iris and rim both, with only a thin cool-grey limbal line and a pinpoint catchlight to read the shape of them; she tilts her head toward her raised shoulder and looks straight into the lens, mouth softly open at the corner in a light smile, a little color riding high on her cheeks and the tip of her nose. She is caught mid-weight-shift: her left leg bears everything, right knee bent and lifted so the right toe hovers just off the floor, both arms out at shoulder height with the left hand raised open as though she had just spun to a stop. The dress is white end to end and nothing else. At the very base of each arm, where the sleeve meets the shoulder, sits a small spherical cuff, a tight round ball of white fabric that pinches in and then billows out into a short puffed sleeve above it, the seam shadow rolling under the sphere like a pearl in a cup; the fabric pulls into fine radial creases at the cuff's equator. Below, her waist is drawn in hard and clean, the white bodice hugging the ribs before the skirt explodes outward: an above-knee skirt starched and gathered into the upper half of a hemisphere, so wide and frothy it holds its dome shape on its own, the hem floating level and unbroken in a perfect arc around her lifted knee with its pleats standing open and the underside faintly shaded. Over that dome, on the left and on the right, hang two semicircular drapes of the same white cloth, each a half-disc falling from the skirt's top edge down to just above the hem, their curved outer edges scalloped loose and swinging a finger's width clear of the skirt beneath, so the two layers of white read as separate planes with a sliver of shadow wedged between them. The backlight rim-lights both drapes along their outer curves and leaves the front of the skirt slightly dimmer, so the whole silhouette glows at its edges and the hemisphere of the skirt is legible as one single volume. Cool, almost monochrome, white on white on white broken only by the warm blush and the thin shadow held under the skirt and inside the cuffs; ethereal, weightless.
