The single tachi hangs at her left side in a black lacquered saya with a dark braided hilt, no second sword anywhere on her.
Behind her the shrine training ground opens out: hard-packed sand, a low wooden fence, a straw practice target, a rack of wooden swords, and a weathered stone lantern at mid-distance on the right; the shrine's dark cypress veranda and a pennant with illegible faded brush lettering sit blurred behind it.
