Although Calyxta appeared to have recovered and was ready for a fight—even displaying her characteristic nonchalance and eccentricity—it was painfully obvious to Roga that she was deeply traumatized by the imprisonment and torture they had endured at the 'Golden Needle.' Calyx decided she could not burden Roga with her own issues; recovering just enough to take action outside their temporary hideout, she managed to convince Roga to let her come and go as she pleased. Thus, while Roga focused on keeping their 'base' concealed, Calyx set out to gather supplies and scout Dolorosa for news and clues regarding the general situation. Unfortunately, she discovered the sheer scale of the devastation Grace had wreaked upon the city, as well as its dire state—not only physically but also in terms of security, law, and order (for all practical purposes, the Board of Directors had collapsed).
