Update - The Outlaw Country delay...
Oh boy, it looks like Mei-Lin is giving Orcland a good talking to... "You said the next parts should be coming soon, but that was weeks ago! Orcland, you have a lot of explaining to do, mister!!!" "Y-yes ma'am...s-sorry ma'am" -- Ok, so here's my explanation: 1) I was overly ambitious - To be honest, I tried my hand at storytelling (for the first time with images) here just to see if I could do it. Turns out, I could! During that period of "if I can," I never gave any consideration to "can I keep this going?" Well, the devising and story creation is the easy part...the actual writing and art generation is much harder. 2) Too many ideas to explore in a short amount of time - Pretty straight forward: I have too much material to work with and a short amount of time to actually get it done. I've already cut two semi-major plot points and I'm still left with a lot of material. I need three to four images left in the Camp Life chapter, plus I'm imagining a small chapter for Cpt. Matsuda detaining our heroes (with a shocking discovery!) and a small chapter for when General Jiang and Callenbeau arrive and negotiations/diplomacy begins (I also have two shocking discoveries waiting for the reader in this chapter). A lot to cover and I don't want to take too long to do it 3) Rewriting is unavoidable - I've made so many revisions and have taken so much content out, to allow for time, that most of what I have left needs rewriting. I apologize for the delays, but I would rather take my time and put out quality, rather than rush the process and put out something I'm not happy with/proud of...so yeah, I have to take the remnants of what I have and rewrite that into shorter and more quickly resolved pieces. 4)The heat in my region is unbearable and it negatively affects my process - It has been an oppressively hot summer this year...and I hate it. I swear, the last time I actually enjoyed summer is when I was a small child, and even then I didn't actually like summer (I just enjoyed being a kid with no job/bills/other obligations). The summer heat is brutal and it saps a lot of my energy/drive to do things. I have model kits I wanted to assemble, prime, and paint up...but this heat has me either working while miserable or not trying to move, as to avoid sweating and feeling anymore lethargic. Even when trying to brainstorm story ideas, my brain just repeats "I hate summer, I hate sweating, I have feeling bleh! I HATE THE SUN!!!!!111" Well, the temperature is starting to come down in my region, so I'm hoping my story writing skills come back from their summer vacation and I can get back to writing for Outlaw Country again 5) Waldenvale is a (pleasant and needed) distraction - i was in a kind of rut before and Waldenvale has been a pleasant distraction and creativity recharge. I find if I work on something for too long, I get restless and in need of a change of scenery. i might play around with the idea of working on Outlaw Country items for a while, then switch over to Waldenvale. Hopefully, this way, I'll always have something to work on and to keep my mind active. I have some experimental ideas for conveying story elements into images, so hopefully that'll be coming up soon. In the meantime, i can give you a quick preview into what I have in mind for Part 9 of Camp Life: Akinori talking to Morris about how he feels being a soldier and having to flee his own country. Morris says he feels good about the decision because conditions in the Federal Union were deteriorating ever since the end of the Russo-Federal Union War. "Given how bad things were back home, something big and something ugly was bound to happen. Combine that and saving Mei-Lin, abandoning the Federal Union was the best and only decision we could've made. Addams and I are in 100% agreement, too." I hope that little morsel will keep you going while I continue the rewriting process (back to the writing mines lol).
