From a gentle high angle, a wolf-eared girl leans forward over a honey-toned wooden kitchen counter, offering a freshly prepared home-cooked meal with a radiant, affectionate smile. Her pointed black wolf ears perk attentively atop voluminous black hair accented with bright crimson streaks, while her warm amber eyes crinkle happily above flushed cheeks. She wears a clean, snow-white kappōgi with ruffled shoulders and voluminous gathered sleeves snug around her forearms, tied securely with cloth sashes at the back. Both hands, shielded by quilted fabric pot holders, firmly cup the flared rim of a rustic dark-glazed earthenware vessel holding glistening chikuzenni. Thick-cut chicken thighs, wheel-patterned lotus root slices with distinct hollow chambers, flower-carved carrot rounds, scored shiitake mushroom caps, and bright green snow peas are bathed in a shimmering, savory soy-and-mirin reduction. Translucent curls of hot steam drift upward from the simmering broth, softening the background where hanging wooden spatulas, neat ceramic spice jars, and a low-simmering stovetop recede in a soft, shallow depth of field. Warm morning light angles across the scene from a nearby window, catching the specular highlights along the glistening glazed vegetables and casting soft, golden reflections across her white smock. Heartwarming and domestic.
