Alice Margatroid & Shinki's Heartwarming Embrace

There's something truly special about the bond between Shinki and her daughter Alice in the PC-98 era. I absolutely adore the warmth and tenderness captured in this piece, with Alice looking so content in her mother's arms. If you love this nostalgic Touhou charm as much as I do, please leave a like and follow for more art!

A small blonde girl with short hair cut in a bob and blue eyes, aged down to a child's proportions, lies collapsed sideways across the older woman's lap: her cheek is pressed to the velvet, her hairband -- a blue band set above her brow -- still holds a short side-tail swept up on one side, and two hair bobbles sit at its base. She wears a blue dress over a white-collared shirt, its short puffy sleeves gathered at the shoulder, a blue skirt fanned across the cushion, a white apron tied at her waist, and a maid headdress perched on her short hair; one arm is flung across the older woman's knees. Her mouth is open in a small ":o", one eye squeezed shut and the other wide, the flush of being fussed over on her cheeks. Above and around her, the older woman with very long white hair and purple eyes leans down out of the top of the frame, her hair spilling over one shoulder to the cushion. She wears a red dress with frilled hem, a capelet draped over her shoulders and a prominent back bow at her lower back that the tilt of her hips toward the camera exposes; a hair ornament glints where her hair is gathered. Her mouth is closed in a gentle, patient smile, lids half lowered, and her eyes are on the girl's face, not the lens. One hand settles flat on the crown of the blonde girl's head, fingers spread through the short hair, palm lightly compressing it; her other arm has come around the girl's back in a loose hug, her forearm along the small of it. The girl's gaze tips up sideways to catch the woman's, one eye still shut, and her small hand has curled into the fabric of the red dress at the woman's knee. The room reads as a grand old mansion parlor: a high-ceilinged wall behind them with a tall window and heavy drawn drapes, a marble mantel with a cold hearth at the far edge of frame, a patterned rug receding beneath the chaise. Warm late-afternoon light comes in low from the window at the left, striking the white hair as a bright rim, glowing through the short blonde strands where the hand lifts them, and falling off into a deep, brownish shadow that swallows the right side of the room; the dark polished floor carries a faint, soft reflection of the window's light. A muted palette of deep red, warm brown wood, ivory white and the crisp blue of the girl's dress, everything else quieted. The cushion visibly dimples under her hip and shoulder where she lies across it, the velvet nap crushed in a soft hollow. Tender, sunlit, unhurried.
