character: nishizumi_miho, nishizumi_shiho, copyright: girls_und_panzer 2girls, nishizumi_shiho, nishizumi_miho, mother and daughter, short stature, petite childlike body, yukata, cute yukata, floral yukata pattern, obi sash, geta sandals, smiling, cheerful smile, open mouth, happy, holding watagashi, holding takoyaki, cotton candy on a paper stick, takoyaki in a paper boat, festival, rows of food stalls, yatai, paper lanterns, night, summer festival, from below, foreshortening, looking at another, walking together, warm lighting, black hair, long hair, hair flower, blue eyes, brown hair, short hair, brown eyes, black hair with pink streaks, hair bow The camera sits low, looking up from knee height: two figures in yukata walk toward the viewer through a corridor of festival stalls, and the low angle makes the paper lanterns string overhead into a bright ceiling. On the right, the shorter of the two -- a woman with a petite, childlike build, long black hair streaked pink down one side, a flower ornament tucked above her left ear, blue eyes -- wears a soft pink yukata printed with small white morning-glory blossoms, its obi tied in a plump bow at her back, the hem swinging clear of her wooden geta. She leans slightly toward her companion, weight on her left foot with the right toe just lifting mid-step, both hands raised: her right hand grips the thin paper stick of a puff of pale pink cotton candy that bulges wider than her head, her left hand cups a flimsy paper boat of takoyaki, three sauce-glossed spheres visible, a curl of steam rising and a single bonito flake sliding down the boat's tilted edge. Her chin lifts toward the taller girl beside her, eyes crinkled, laughing openly, one shoulder of the yukata slipping a centimetre as her arm rises. On the left, the taller girl -- short brown hair tucked behind her ears, brown eyes -- wears a navy yukata with a scattered firework print, sleeves pushed back at the wrist, and carries her own cotton candy in her right hand and a takoyaki boat balanced on her left palm, thumb hooked under it to keep it level. She turns her head toward the shorter woman, mouth open in a wide answering smile at the exact moment she leans in, her front foot planted, back heel raised, the two of them nearly shoulder to shoulder, their shadows pooling and overlapping on the packed-earth path. Neither looks at the lens; their gazes meet each other's faces, and the shorter one's raised cotton candy drifts into the lantern light, glowing from within, while the taller one's stays in shadow and reads soft and matte. The stalls line both sides in receding rows: striped awnings, griddles glowing orange beneath takoyaki pans, hanging paper lanterns in red and white, wooden signs with illegible brush lettering, a row of goldfish-scoop tanks catching reflections at the far left. Warm lantern light falls from above and slightly behind the figures, rimming their hair and the tops of their shoulders with a thin gold line while their faces stay gently lit by the bounce off the stalls. The palette stays in festival warm -- lantern red, indigo and navy cloth, dusky summer-night blue overhead, the pink of the cotton candy as the brightest note in frame. A single variable holds the picture together: the steam from the takoyaki curls upward and bends toward the lantern row, showing the direction of the warm air. Joyful, bright, a little nostalgic.
