Traditional Japanese ink wash painting on off-white washi paper: a wide low-angle view looks up across a circular sumo ring drawn in a single loaded brushstroke, its packed-sand surface dusted with scattered salt and two pale footmarks in the centre. Three ink-painted creatures are locked mid-bout. In the near foreground, seen from below at a dramatic upward three-quarter angle, a round-bodied purple-toned gengar in a dark sumi mawashi with a pale rope fringe crouches in the shiko stomp, one heavy leg lifted high and raised flat-footed above the ring, the other planted with its sole gripping the sand; its short spiked hair tufts stand up in stiff ink flicks, its red eyes and red sclera glow against the grey wash of its face, and both stubby hands are braced downward, one fisted against its hip, the other pressed to the mawashi's knot to keep the rope taut. To its right a haunter leans in as a floating, tapering body of drifting ink smoke, hovering above the ring surface with no feet touching the sand, both clawed hands raised and spread with the fingertips toward the stomping gengar, its very long hair streaming behind it in wet black brush washes with a long ponytail and sidelocks whipping from the movement, hair falling over one eye where the brush clearly parts it; it stares fixedly at the gengar's lifted foot. Hovering further back and slightly left, a smaller spherical gastly hangs in the middle of the ring's far arc, a dense dark core wrapped in pale grey vapour that trails ink curls downward around its body, one tiny curved smile visible in the wash, its small round eyes turned toward the gengar as well. The lifted foot's motion has kicked up a low crescent of salt and fine sand into the air, and the ink vapour of the haunting spirit bends away from the same gust — the only broken lines in the composition. A single shaft of light rakes in from behind the ring's far edge, throwing the gengar's crouched mass and the stomping foot into a broad flat shadow that stretches toward the low camera while the near edge of the ring stays pale and dry; a few drips and a heavier ink pool at the base of the lower-left mawashi knot mark where the brush was pressed. Palette: black ink from pale grey to deepest black, warm off-white paper, and a single deep red accent reserved for the gengar's eyes. Confident, forceful, weighted with ceremony.
