From a high three-quarter angle above and slightly to the side, a single blonde girl with very long straight hair, cat ears with tufts of fluff at their bases, and a slim tail curving out behind her hips crouches in a low kneeling crouch on a soft, sun-warmed patch of earth, not standing and not centered square to the lens. Her weight rests on the ball of her right foot and her left knee, the knee pressed into the soil with a small dent where it meets the ground, her right hand lowering a shallow woven basket to rest against her thigh while her left hand pinches a single small herb up toward her face, the fingers pinching the stem just below the tiny white flower. The basket is full to the brim with the seven spring herbs: long slender seri stems with their crisp green leaves, a fan of jagged nazuna leaves, round-lobed gogyo leaves, soft hairy hakobera, the small heart-shaped hotokenoza leaves and their delicate white blooms, and the pale round white suzuna roots piled at one edge, the whole bundle slightly overfilled and a few stray leaves caught on the rim. She wears a frilled maid dress, its pale apron and skirt hem dusted with a few clinging specks of soil, shoulders bare above the puff of the sleeves, no gloves so her bare hands are fully visible in the herb-pinching grip, and no shoes or socks, her bare feet and toes pressed flat into the dark loose earth. Her cat ears tilt forward toward the herb, one fang peeking past the corner of her slightly parted lips, a faint closed-mouth smile and a bright blue-eyed look angled down toward the pinch of green between her fingers. Her long hair spills forward over one shoulder and a few blonde strands catch on the basket rim. Above her the sky is a wash of pale spring light, the low sun behind and to the left throwing a soft warm rim along her hair, ears and shoulder, casting one soft shadow of her crouched body into the turned earth at her knees, the only light source a low soft daylight so the shaded fronts of the herb leaves are a muted grey-green while the upward-facing blades glow. The palette is held to the fresh yellow-greens and whites of the herbs, warm blonde, the pale cream of the dress and the dark brown of the soil, nothing else admitted. The light catches the fine downy fuzz on the hakobera leaves and the damp sheen of the just-dug suzuna roots. Quiet, tender.
