Closing a chapter
• I started martial arts when I was six years old because of Power Rangers. • I wanted to stop when I was, probably, nine. I don’t remember why I wanted to stop, but my parents wouldn’t let me because we had just signed a contract. • At twelve years old I met my coach/mentor and I took up boxing. • At nineteen I had a (short-lived) national powerlifting record; which was a supplemental disciple to my boxing training. • At…twenty-two, I think, I started teaching classes. • At thirty years old, when Killian was born, I had stopped properly training and switched my focus to progressing the retail store. • This Monday will be my last day teaching. I will essentially be retiring from martial arts as a profession. I feel some relief because running two businesses was stretching me thin, and the hours on the road was killing me. I felt a mixture of burnout and lack of confidence from teaching. Martial arts has always been a part of me, but I might not have loved it as much as I should have. Something like that. So, it feels like a part of me is dying. I might be able to train for myself again. I don’t know yet. I’m just trying to find my feelings.
