armour details: a Macedonian sarissa pikeman armour that consists of Body ArmorThe Linothorax: The most common armor worn by the average pikeman, constructed from multiple layers of stiffened linen glued or stitched together. It was lightweight, flexible, and provided excellent slashing and piercing resistance at a fraction of the cost and weight of bronze.Metal Cuirasses: Elite phalangites, officers, or wealthier soldiers occasionally wore the thorax, a rigid bronze or iron breastplate that offered greater protection but increased weight.Helmet and LeggingsHelmets: Pikemen wore bronze helmets, most commonly the Pylos (a conical, cap-like helmet), the Thracian helmet, or the bulbous Phrygian style. These provided solid head protection without severely restricting the soldier's field of vision.Greaves: Some soldiers wore cnemides (bronze shin guards), though these were often discarded by regular troops to reduce weight and increase marching speed.

It featured a leaf-shaped iron spearhead and a flanged bronze or iron butt-spike called the sauroter. The sauroter served as a counterbalance, anchored the pike to the ground to stop enemy charges, and acted as a backup spear point if the front snapped.The Xiphos: A short, secondary iron slashing and stabbing sword carried for close-quarters combat if the phalanx line broke or the pike was lost.ShieldThe Telamon: Unlike the traditional Greek aspis (a massive hoplite shield), the phalangite carried a smaller, flatter, and lighter shield known as the pelta or telamon. It was slung around the neck and shoulders with a strap, resting against the left arm or upper chest, This ingenious strapping method left both hands entirely free to grip the massive sarissa.
