石虎 季龍 Shi Hu Jilong

This is my illustrated version of Shi Hu (Jilong). It’s not a strict historical reconstruction. I leaned into a more dramatic, villainous image, and I deliberately borrowed some visual ideas from the way Dong Zhuo is often portrayed in Three Kingdoms pop culture. The comparison felt natural to me: both figures come across as larger-than-life strongmen defined by brutality, ambition, and political terror. Shi Hu rose to power through betrayal, turned on his own relatives after Shi Le's death, and became infamous for the harshness of his rule. Then history added one more layer of irony: after Shi Hu died, Shi Min climbed upward in much the same way. I also worked in Buddhist imagery, because Shi Hu is often described as an active promoter of Buddhism. The result is the kind of ruler history occasionally produces: a man who can sponsor religion, sit beneath sacred imagery, and still look like he'd have half the court executed before dinner.
