Her knuckles press against the hilt wrap, supporting the forward lean of her torso as her chest heaves from exertion, her legs set in a wide, grounded stance. Her chin is tilted slightly upward to direct an intense, unblinking gaze forward toward the viewer through disheveled blunt bangs that cling damply to her glistening forehead. Her bright yellow irises stand out against sharp, precise flicks of scarlet red eyeliner at the outer corners of her eyes, while her mouth hangs slightly open in a pant, cheeks flushed deep pink. Heavy beads of perspiration track down her temples, cling to her jawline, and drip steadily from the tip of her chin. Her long black hair, interwoven with lighter contrasting streaks, is bound into a segmented multi-tied ponytail with a dark hair bow, tumbling forward over her right shoulder so its damp ends brush her collar. She wears a traditional dark indigo quilted kendogi jacket tucked into matching pleated hakama; the thick fabric is thoroughly soaked through, darkened and clinging heavily to her shoulders, chest, and arms. The amber-toned cedar floorboards mirror her crouched silhouette, catching individual rounded droplets of sweat that pool along the seams of the wood grain. Warm afternoon sunlight streams horizontally through low slatted shoji windows from the side, illuminating the airborne vapor of her breath and catching the wet sheen on her bare throat and collarbones, while casting long, soft shadows across the hall behind her. The palette balances saturated indigo, warm cedar wood, rich raven black, and the vibrant puncture of amber and scarlet. Exhausted intensity.
