The old man has crinkled, smiling eyes, soft tufts of white hair, and a short neat white beard, dressed in a faded indigo cotton kimono under a warm dove-grey haori jacket. Perched neatly on his right shoulder is a tiny, round grey rat (子) wearing a miniature red braided cord around its neck, nibbling a toasted rice grain held in both paws. Resting directly in the grandfather's lap, cupped gently by his wrinkled left hand, is a fluffy white rabbit (卯) with upright pink-lined ears and ruby-colored eyes, gazing peacefully upward. Curled lazily around the grandfather's right forearm is a slender emerald-green snake (巳) with smooth golden belly scales, resting its chin quietly on his sleeve. To the grandfather's immediate left, a sturdy miniature brown ox (丑) rests upon the tatami, wearing a decorative woven straw shimenawa rope with vermilion tassels, its rounded head leaning contentedly against the man's hip. Beside the ox, a compact orange tiger (寅) with clean black stripes lies on its stomach like a contented housecat, resting its chin over its crossed front paws with slit amber eyes. Floating in a graceful serpentine S-curve in the air directly above the grandfather's head is a miniature golden dragon (辰), its shimmering pearlescent scales catching the light, flowing white whiskers and mane trailing softly through the open breeze. Clustered to the grandfather's right, a cloud-like white sheep (未) with smooth curving horns snuggles tightly into the folds of his kimono, while a plump little striped wild boar piglet (亥) dozes deeply against the sheep's woolly flank, its tiny white tusks peeking from its snout. Sitting upright in the foreground before the grandfather is an orange-and-white Shiba Inu dog (戌), its curly tail wagging against the tatami, tongue happily lolling in an open-mouthed grin. Perched atop the wooden veranda railing in the midground, a nimble brown monkey (申) holds onto a support post with one hand while waving playfully with the other, its curled tail wrapped around the beam. Standing squarely beside the monkey on the flat railing beam, a golden-feathered rooster (酉) puffs out its chest proudly, sporting a brilliant crimson comb and glossy tail feathers. Just outside the engawa on the mossy garden stones, a gentle chestnut horse (午) with a dark flowing mane extends its soft muzzle over the low timber railing toward the gathering, its large dark eyes filled with calm affection. Underneath the seated figures and animals, the woven rush matting of the tatami compresses subtly under their combined weight, while soft afternoon sunlight slants diagonally across the timber floorboards, highlighting dust motes and casting gentle, warm rim light across fur, wool, and dragon scales. Beyond the veranda, soft pastel garden greenery and delicate pink plum blossoms fill the background with festive seasonal charm. Rendered in a modern chibi-focused anime style with rounded proportions, oversized heads, clean crisp linework, dense decorative accents, and a soft pastel palette. Heartwarming festive joy.
