At the exact center of the table sits a simmering tabletop oden pot partitioned into metal compartments, brimming with translucent amber dashi broth, thick cross-scored daikon radish rounds, hard-boiled eggs, golden-brown chikuwa tubes, triangular konjac, and tied mochi pouches. Translucent plumes of steam rise steadily from the simmering broth, thinning as they curl upward and casting soft condensation beads along the glazed ceramic edges of nearby small dipping bowls. On the far side of the table, the girl with very long dark green hair and wide side flaps leans forward over the steaming pot, holding a small ceramic dish close to her chin with both hands while her cheeks puff gently as she blows on a freshly lifted slice of daikon; her vibrant green eyes are locked in joyful concentration on the food. To her right, the girl with light blonde twin braids tied with small ribbons flashes an energetic open-mouthed grin showing a sharp little snaggletooth, holding a pair of wooden chopsticks aloft with a pierced fishcake piece dripping broth back into the compartment, her yellow eyes directed across the table. Across from her, the girl with long reddish-auburn hair swept into a high side bun rests one hand against her knit sweater and grips chopsticks in the other, offering a confident, fond smile toward the center, her blue eyes crinkling with warmth. Beside her sits the girl with chestnut brown hair and a prominent springy ahoge curling above her head, resting both knees under the table edge and beaming with flushed cheeks as she cradles her own bowl, watching the pot with happy anticipation. Soft golden illumination from an overhead warm paper pendant lamp bathes the scene, creating gentle radial drop shadows under the bowls and highlighting the glossy surface of the rich broth against the cool natural straw weave of the tatami floor. Cozy warmth and lively camaraderie.
